Historic Roswell Kiwanis
5th Annual Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo
April 30, 2006
Despite threatening skies, the 5th Annual Historic Roswell Kiwanis Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo, held on April 30, was a great success with approximately 125 youngsters participating. Our oldest participant was Mayor Jere Wood, age undisclosed, who made it through each station, although he had some difficulty with the helmet check and the slalom!
This important community activity helped remind children and parents alike of the important rules needed for safe bicycling. This was the smoothest rodeo in the history of the Historic Roswell Criterium.
Many thanks to the 19 Kiwanis volunteers who made the rodeo work so well. We also had numerous Kiwanis family members and friends helping as well Bill Purdie (spouse of Roswell Kiwanian Ruby Purdie) did an outstanding job inspecting bike helmets, and Chris Van de Griend had her in-laws in Roswell from Holland, just for our rodeo!
The new Key Club of Blessed Trinity Catholic High School had members present.
Jeff Pruitt, Administrator of Park Services, City of Roswell, Recreation & Parks Department, had this to say: "Thanks for all the hard work...that Kiwanis displayed to pull off the event."
Roswell Councilman David Tolleson said: "Thanks to...Kiwanis members for supporting our kids!"
