7th Annual Historic Roswell Kiwanis Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo
May 4, 2008
Historic Roswell Kiwanis conducted its 7th annual Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo on Sunday, May 4, 2008 while the Historic Roswell Criterium Bicycle races was taking place nearby.

Historic Roswell Kiwanis believes that bicycle safety is one of the most important skills we can teach in order to keep children who ride safe on the roads.

The Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo is an organized "class" where children learn about cycling safety and bicycle handling skills organized by the Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell. After the "class" portion, the children will have an obstacle course to navigate through in order to "graduate" from the class and be eligible to race in the Kids Race to be held on the same course as the Pro race!

Emergency Medical Technicians from the Roswell Fire Department were on site during the Rodeo.

During the year 2000, more than 350,000 kids under 15 suffered head trauma as a result of a bicycle crash. Of those, 130,000 kids suffered a brain injury, but the Brain Injury Association of Georgia says 88 percent of those injuries came from not putting on a bike helmet.

Note on kids races:  Historic Roswell Kiwanis is disappointed that the kids races did not go as planned by the Criterium organizers.  However, Historic Roswell Kiwanis is not in charge of the races nor does it have control of the race circuit.  We are in charge of the Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo and getting the children to the race circuit.  Once they arrive at the race circuit, the Race Organizers are in control of the event.

While we do not conduct the kids races, we nevertheless regret the confusion.
