Historic Roswell Kiwanis was well represented at the 86th Annual Convention of the Georgia District of Kiwanis, held August 5 - 7, 2005 in the Classic City of Athens. In the first contested election in years, Maurice J. "Mick" Maguire of Peachtree City Kiwanis defeated Dr. Ray Chambers of Bainbridge for Georgia District Secretary-Treasurer. This office automatically leads to the position of Governor after a term as Governor-elect. As Secretary/Treasurer-elect, Mick Maguire will serve as Georgia District Kiwanis Governor in 2007-2008.
Also, Historic Roswell Kiwanis supported a bylaw amendment to require all clubs, attending or not, to pay for three delegates to the District Convention. Ron Jackson spoke on behalf of KCHR supporting this amendment. Although the amendment received a majority of votes, it was three votes shy of the required two-thirds majority needed for a bylaw change. Supporters vow to bring the proposal back next year at the convention in Atlanta.
KCHR delegates were President Bo Whitley, Chris Van de Griend and Liz Jackson. Past District Governor Ron Jackson was a Delegate-At-Large. At the convention, 96 clubs were represented by 213 Club Delegates. Also, 46 Delegates-at-Large (past Governors, current Lt. Governors, etc.) were in attendance.
With attendance at the Convention, KCHR completes the requirements for an Interclub Banner Patch.
