The Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell and Crabapple Middle School Builders Club held their annual fishing outing for the youngsters of the Child Development Association of North Fulton (CDA) on Thursday, May 7, 2009. The children and other guests were treated to a cookout lunch.

Fishing was  "catch and release".

The Roswell Police Department's "Officer Friendly"  provided tours of a police car, and Emergency Medical Technicians had a demonstration.  Police and medical personnel were on-site throughout the entire event.

Keep Roswell Beautiful provided a nature activity.

Historic Roswell Kiwanis is an active partner with the Child Development Association of North Fulton, conducting several events yearly for the children served there, and conducting hands-on projects to improve the facility. Additionally, Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell is a financial supporter of this important part of Roswell’s social services.

The Association was founded in 1967 by a group of concerned citizens after a young North Fulton child died of malnutrition. Its primary purpose both then and now was to provide quality care for children from low income working families. Today the Association serves more than 300 children and their families annually in its nationally accredited child care programs, and also operates the North Fulton Human Service Center that houses other area non-profit agencies.

The outing was held at the home of David and Susan Hall, Lake Grace,  in Roswell.  The Hall’s family multi-home compound has a lake which is ideal for fishing.  For many of these children, this will be the first time that they have participated in such an outing.

Kiwanian Sherry Binkley is past chair of the Child Development Association Board of Directors.
