Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell
2005 Golden Rule Award
November 3, 2005
The recipient of the 2005 Golden Rule Award, presented by the Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell, is Ms. Barbara Duffy, the Director of North Fulton Community Charities (NFCC).
The Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell presents the Golden Rule Award in recognition of "demonstration of selfless sacrifice, dedicated service and committed leadership to the Roswell community." It is reflective of the second Object of Kiwanis International:
"To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships."
Barbara Duffy has been Executive Director of North Fulton Community Charities since 1990. Before that she worked with NFCC as a volunteer and served as chairman of the Community Clothes Closet for ten years.
She has been active in the community since moving to Roswell in 1978. A Girl Scout leader for 13 years, Ms Duffy served in many positions in PTA including president at Crabapple Middle School. Additionally, she has been an advocate and active lobbyist at the General Assembly for education reforms.
Ms. Duffy was elected to Fulton County School Board in 1984 serving eight years and served as President of the Board of Education from 1988 to 1992.
Ms. Duffy is a Commissioner on the Fulton County Housing Authority, where she presently serves as Current Chairman. Since 1995, she has served on the Community Advisory Board for District 3, Fulton Roundtable Expanded Services Headquarters (FRESH) and is on the Workforce Development Advisory Board, Fulton County.
Ms. Duffy has been a public servant in the truest sense of that phrase.
She has served Roswell -- through community involvement, service to Fulton County schools and through North Fulton Community Charities -- for two decades.
Under Ms. Duffy's direct leadership, North Fulton Community Charities has moved from being a small nonprofit agency to becoming an outstanding community asset -- a model for other metro-Atlanta communities -- serving thousands of clients yearly.
She has artfully blended a New Englander's frugality with the compassion needed to help others. Ms. Duffy has made a strong case to the Roswell community that there really are those in affluent north Fulton, often unseen and unnoticed, who are in profound need, and that those needs must be addressed.
Congratulations to Ms. Barbara Duffy, recipient of the 2005 Golden Rule Award.
