Historic Roswell Kiwanis has completed its annual Read Around The World project with Roswell Read-in, a reading "mini-marathon" at Roswell North Elementary School.  Eight Kiwanians and Roswell City officials read to all first grade classes and two kindergarten classes in the school's media center.

Guest readers included: Kay Love, Roswell City Administrator;  Stu Moring, Director of Environment and Public Works; Roswell City Council member David Tolleson; Kiwanis Club President Chris Van de Griend; Project Chair Judy Allen; Club Treasurer Roger Lamprey; and past club president David Holihan.

Many thanks to Roswell North Elementary School for their cooperation.  Martha Powell is the media specialist and Jerome Huff is Principal.

Between February 1 and March 30, Kiwanis clubs across the globe participated in local projects that address child literacy in fun and creative ways. World-wide activities have included everything from holding a book party to organizing a make-a-book day or staging a “Live with Literature” theater production.

Children who grow up in homes where parents do not read, or have only marginal reading skills, often lack early exposure to reading. They do not have stories read to them by a parent. They do not see books or print materials in their homes. They often do not have parental help with schoolwork.
