"A great outlook for Roswell," says Mayor Jere Wood
Roswell Mayor Jere Wood shared his view of the State of the City in remarks to Historic Roswell Kiwanis at its weekly meeting on Thursday, January 22, 2009.
Mayor Wood, who is in third term, said that "all the elements of a great future" are in place for Roswell. He cited the positive assets of the city as outstanding city employees, nonprofit groups and parks, and noted that Roswell has the "best schools in the state."
Mayor Wood, a charter member of Historic Roswell Kiwanis, predicted no tax increase this year despite a decline in revenue collections of $2.1 millon. But he said the shortfalls could be made up by not filling open positions, freezing salaries and other belt-tightening measures.
Mayor Wood told said he would not recommend a pay raise for city employees in the upcoming budget, which begins in July, but that he also did not anticipate job furloughs or layoffs.
Mayor Wood received a Hixson Fellowship from the club. He also holds Kiwanis Legion of Honor status, signifying membership in Kiwanis of over 25 years.
