Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts:  Ways you can help!

Date: Tuesday, August 30, 2005
Title: Disaster Relief Fund to aid Hurricane Katrina victims

Your International Kiwanis Foundation has again been called upon to aid in disaster relief. Hurricane Katrina has destroyed many homes and businesses in the Unites States Gulf Coast. The Kiwanis International Foundation Disaster Relief Fund will be utilized to aid children affected by the devastating hurricane.
The Foundation, working through the districts and clubs within the affected areas, ensures that contributions will be directed to children with the most immediate and critical needs.

Many of the concerned ask if there is anything they can do to help. Contributions are being accepted. Please send your support to the Kiwanis International Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, 3636 Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA 46268 or click here to contribute online.

Our thoughts are with the countless individuals suffering because of this natural disaster. Please join us in serving children who are truly the most innocent victims of severe tragedies.

Beginning on September 2, Historic Roswell Kiwanians responded to the needs related to the disaster in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.  Headed by new Roswell Kiwanian Frederick Levy, KCHR members donated  clothing, food, water and money.

As Historic Roswell Kiwanis began its collection, Roswell Kiwanians made plans to make a trip of  to the affected area with the supplies.  Logistics -- availability of gasoline, vehicle availability, clear roads, etc. -- led KCHR to look for other options.

Coastal Moving and Storage, in partnership with Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, agreed to take supplies donated by Kiwanis and by our community to Red Cross authorities in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.  These items were loaded at 8 am on Friday, September 2 and again at 4 pm on September 3, and were shipped over the weekend.

The American Red Cross provided our driver the route to Jefferson Parish, just north of New Orleans on the edge of Lake Pontchartrain. Supplies collected by Historic Roswell Kiwanians will be distributed by Red Cross officials as soon as they arrived in the affected area.

Additionally, Historic Roswell Kiwanis has adopted 14 displaced nursing home residents, now located at Roswell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
