Col. Ron L. Mastin, Vietnam-era POW,
speaks to Historic Roswell Kiwanis

Former Georgia Kiwanis Governor Ron Jackson introduced his good friend, Ron Mastin, as a true American hero at Historic Roswell Kiwanis on May 29, 2009.

Ronald L. Mastin was born in Beloit, Kansas, where he attended public schools through high school.  He graduated from the University of Kansas Business School in the spring of 1963.  In fall of 1963, Ron came on active duty in the United States Air Force.

After training and a number of other assignments, Col. Mastin went to Southeast Asia in October 1966. Flying from Udorn, Thailand on their 34th photo reconnaissance mission, he and his front-seater, then Capt. Tom Storey, were shot down on January 16, 1967, northeast of Hanoi.  Col. Mastin was released on March 4, 1973.

Col. Mastin’s interests include almost all types of competitive and spectator sports. Last Month, Col. Mastin completed the Boston Marathon, his sixth marathon.

Says Col. Mastin: “Let us all never forget that we live in the most wonderful country in the world, that we defend freedoms which most people the world over can't even realize…”

Col. Mastin will be the special guest at the GOP barbeque in June, 2008...

Historic Roswell Kiwanis President Chris Van de Griend presented a check for $500 to Ross Cooper, board chair of Camp To Belong, for support of the 2008 camp session.
